Truth In Advertising

I just received one of those infernal mass forwards that talked about how we should not accept the new coins becuase they took "In God We Trust" off of them. This is what I wrote back:

I call that truth in advertising.

Do we really think we are a Christian nation? Most of the founding fathers were not Christians -- they were deists who denied the divinity of Christ. So we could say that keeping "In God We Trust" on our coins is a nod to them, I guess. They trusted in God...but not in His Son. (If you are indeed a Deist and are reading this you need not read any further. What follows applies only to Christians.)

But who is trusting in God in America today really? We have a population that claims to be overwhelmingly Christian yet very day in America 5000 mothers pay 5000 doctors to kill 5000 unborn babies. Can we really call ourselves a Christian nation?

American churches are being swept up in a false gospel of health and prosperity that serves man but refuses to glorify God. Do you own a book by Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyers, T.D. Jakes, Beth Moore or Bruce Wilkinson? They are the peddlers of this false gospel. On Larry King Live Joel Osteen told America that Christ was not the only way to Heaven. So he's obviously not a Christian. Narcissism is the god of this age. We seek a religion that will make us feel good about ourselves. We abandon the Bible for books that give us a list of things to do to make us happy (The Purpose Driven Life) or a mantra that will make us rich (The Prayer of Jabez) or some mystical glimpse at what lies beyond (90 Minutes in Heaven). All of this is extremelyh anti-Biblical...but we don't know that because we don't read our Bibles. We don't seek God's face in His revealed word and we don't seek to glorify Him. We may trust him as our cosmic vending machine..."help me out here God...get me out of this mess and make me feel good again"...but that is not the kind of relationship He wants with us.

Does your church preach the Gospel or do you get sweet sermons about how you are good and everything is going to be okay? Is God glorified in your church or are you?

Do you know the Gospel? Could you explain it to someone?

Are you saved? From what?

Hosea 4:6 says "For lack of knowledge my people are being destroyed."

God is talking about us.

I really don't thnk God cares about us taking "In God we trust" off of our coins. Jesus made it clear in Mark 12:17 that He didn't care what was on the coin of the day. What He cares about is what is in front of your face -- The Bible or some time wasting TV program that trots out America's true gods -- the actors and actresses.

If you really want to make a stand for God don't worry about the coins. Don't waste emotion on what the world is seeking to destroy. Don't let your patriotism become an idol. You are a citizen of Heaven first and a citizen of America second. If you want to make a stand for God pick up your Bible and see what God has to say to you. Give Him the Glory that He deserves. Cry out to Him for salvation and a renewal of your mind. Acknowledge that He alone saves and satisfy your thirst with His Word.

Romans 1 talks about the definition of sin. In verses 18-21, the Word of God says

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Notice what makes sin a sin: "For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him..."

Sin is not giving God glory and not giving Him thanks.

Worry about spreading the Gospel of Salvation to those who are perishing and not some coins.
